Usually passive and active regeneration work but if they don’t then you will need to have your DPF unblocked through a forced regeneration. Once you notice that your vehicle’s performance and fuel efficiency have reduced, you should consider cleaning your DPF. When your dashboard lights up with a warning sign that your DPF is full, you will need to let your DPF regenerate itself through passive or active regeneration. For passive regeneration, you will need to drive for at least 30 minutes at a consistent speed so that the exhaust temperature rises to burn off the soot. Active regeneration kicks in automatically usually when the filter is 45%, but it may not compete if the drive was short. You can facilitate a full regeneration by driving above 40mph for 10 minutes.

Regularly cleaning your DPF will extend its life. However, as the mileage increases, a replacement will become necessary. If your vehicle gets older, the cost of replacement might end up being higher than the value of your car. At Carpol, we only use DPFs from trusted car manufacturers.
